We support the growing need for connection and a new era of transformative services and technology

Our beginnings

In November 2022, Vodafone NZ (now One NZ) sold its passive mobile tower infrastructure to a consortium of three investors – Infratil, Infrared Capital and Northleaf Capital. The consortium are all world-class infrastructure investors in their own right, each with a long-term, sustainable investment approach to support the digital foundations for a better future. This created the Aotearoa Towers Group – which is us, trading as Fortysouth.

We have no direct retail (telecommunications companies) ownership and as such, we are 100% independent to bring the best to 100% of our partners and communities. We are a team primarily based in Auckland with a small number of our team working remotely from locations around New Zealand.

Our footprint

We have a portfolio of 1,500 towers and 98% coverage of where New Zealanders live, work and play. We are strategic partners to mobile network operators, fixed wireless providers and critical communications services.

From shared location offerings to ongoing optimisation of existing sites, we are on a constant journey to create efficiencies and novel opportunities that enable our customers to spearhead new ways of connecting, working and seeing the world.

The build programme for the next decade already includes new and enhanced connectivity throughout New Zealand. From Rakiura to Cape Reinga, every region in Aotearoa will be enhanced.

At present, our portfolio comprises 1400+ towers including:

660+

regional and rural
locations and growing

945+

large macro and
monopoles

Our infrastructure

We provide the physical framework for the delivery of transformative digital services.

We own all assets related to passive infrastructure that support the mobile network – this includes physical towers, masts and poles; as well as foundations, fencing and access facilities, along with the ground leases and licences that secure space for the towers and associated equipment.

Mobile network operators like One NZ (formerly Vodafone) own and operate active parts of the network – that’s things like antennas, radio equipment and batteries installed upon the towers and inside the cabinets.

As Fortysouth is the tenant who holds the agreements with our landowners (ranging from farms, to councils and commercial property owners), we are responsible for all servicing and site maintenance, including anything that may need to be done to the equipment on the tower like the antennas.
